Work: "Jose Bonell's work builds narratives based on a collective imaginary, full of historical, literary and personal references with the intention of creating new images that examine our relationship with the contemporary world. Oneiric, sarcastic or humorous, Bonell scenes depict a singular moment charged with anticipation. These scenes are sometimes involved in incongruous or uncanny episodes, or caught amidst moments of dialogue or action with a special appreciation of the daily mysteries of the human experience. The fluent brushstrokes, the gesture and the reduced but selected color ranges -close to traditional oriental painting- confer immediacy and freshness to his paintings. Bonell's paintings organize a new "friendly” mythology rich in visual methaphors, as a large fragmented frieze, for the understanding of our wild and complex environment"
